“HGTV has decided not to move forward with the Benham Brothers’ series.” A tweet from HGTV last week set of the controversy around the Benham Brothers.
Home & Garden Television announced last week that the network “decided not to move forward” with the reality show “Flip It Forward” starring twin brothers David and Jason Benham because of their faith-driven pro-life and traditional marriage beliefs.
The news set off a firestorm of controversy with several organizations highlighting the hypocrisy of the decision. The brothers have responded saying they are “saddened” by HGTV’s decision and noted that “if our faith costs us a television show then so be it.”
But who put the pressure on HGTV to halt production of the show in the first place? The Daily Caller highlighted the liberal network that orchestrated the ousting, and it appears to be led by Right Wing Watch.
Right Wing Watch is in turn tied to a liberal advocacy group called People for the American Way (PFAW). The article delves in to how this left-wing network has been linked to past campaigns to silence television personalities who have voiced conservative principles on social issues.
2nd Vote is continuing research and has found that the left-wing Tides Foundation, which also helped fund the starting of PWAF, last year donated $30,000 to the organization.
