Since 2015, 2ndVote has exposed that some United Way chapters fund Planned Parenthood. Despite the national leadership’s declaration that it doesn’t engage in support for America’s largest abortion firm, local chapters sent almost $2.8 million to Planned Parenthood chapters in 2016.
This is enough to pay for 2,901 abortions.
2ndVote’s exclusive research on this matter can be seen here. We estimate that the amount of money given to Planned Parenthood by United Way chapters went up by almost $166,000 from 2015 to 2016, though the number of chapters providing donations went from 68 to 62. Virginia’s United Way chapters gave the most amount of money to Planned Parenthood — $376,883.
Chapters in 29 states sent money to Planned Parenthood, for a total of 4.9 percent of United Way chapters. Interestingly, four of the top five states in which abortion-funding United Way chapters are located are “battleground” election states — Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida. Only New York breaks into the top five as a typically partisan liberal state.
This important research highlights just how irresponsible some corporations are. Donating to Planned Parenthood-supporting United Way chapters should make those chapters anathema to responsible corporate funders. Yet they slide on by.
This is where 2ndVote shoppers must step up. Tell United Way corporate sponsors that you will not take this lying down. They must stop funding United Way’s Planned Parenthood sugar daddies.
