Social media giant Facebook (1 – Liberal) recently unveiled a new gay “pride” reaction to exist alongside the traditional ‘like’ and newer options, such as ‘love’ or ‘sad’. As of now, the option is available for the month of June to Facebook users who like Facebook’s official gay pride page. Some users have even deployed the “pride” reaction to troll the pages of conservative, pro-family politicians and candidates.
Facebook has a long history of advocacy for left-wing causes. For example, in 2016, they were caught suppressing conservative-leaning stories from appearing in the ‘trending’ section. As the ‘trending’ section is at the top of one’s news feed, this likely prevented conservatives from being able to see news that they would have liked to see.
This also fits into Facebook’s larger history of opposition to traditional family values. Facebook signed onto an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to unilaterally overturn state laws protecting marriage in 2015 and has a long record of opposing religious liberty.
