Make Halloween Candy a Treat, Not a Trick

The scariest part of Halloween is deciding how to spend money without violating your values. Last week, we gave our top choices for costumes and supplies. Today, we are urging you to buy candy from Jelly Belly and Russell Stover instead of Mars, Hershey’s, and Nestle.

The facts are clear. Jelly Belly’s only donations in our issues are to The Salvation Army. Russell Stover is explicitly neutral in all areas. Mars, Hershey’s, and Nestle, meanwhile, put politics ahead of serving you — their customer.

You the customer have a lot of power. By directing your Halloween shopping dollars to companies like Jelly Belly, or your favorite local candy-maker, your personal economic choice will be telling the bed guys they need to remember customers, not left-wing politics, come first. In addition to using your dollars to make a statement, you can contact Mars, Hershey’s, and Nestle directly through their scorepages to let them know why you’ve chosen a competitor.

Oh, and we recommend the Jelly Belly Mellocreme Pumpkins

I stopped buying from all Hershey (Almond Joy, KitKat, Reese’s, Whoopers, Milk duds, Mr Goodbar, Cadbury), Mars (M&Ms) and Nestle products a few years ago. Wasn’t easy, cause so many products, but my values are worth it.
